Medicare Updates for New Mexico in 2026
Presbyterian is discontinuing most of its Medicare Advantage plans for 2027. If your plan is affected, your current 2026 coverage will remain in place through December 31, 2026, but you'll need to review your Medicare options for next year. During the Annual Enrollment Period, which runs from October 15 to December 7, you can compare other Medicare Advantage plans or consider returning to Original Medicare with additional coverage, or even explore options like New Mexico Medicaid if it suits your needs.

Important Change for New Mexico Medicaid + Medicare D-SNP Members
Starting January 1, 2028, New Mexico will require individuals enrolled in a Dual Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) to have both their D-SNP and their New Mexico Medicaid managed-care plan with the same insurance provider.
If you have a UnitedHealthcare D-SNP, to remain enrolled, your New Mexico Turquoise Care Medicaid plan must also be with UnitedHealthcare. This does not convert your federal Medicare card into a UnitedHealthcare card; rather, it's about harmonizing these two plans:
- UnitedHealthcare D-SNP
- New Mexico Turquoise Care Medicaid through UnitedHealthcare
What happens if your Turquoise Care Medicaid is with a different company? If you choose to retain your current Turquoise Care Medicaid plan with another insurer, you will not be able to continue your enrollment in the UnitedHealthcare D-SNP. According to the flyer, you will be automatically disenrolled from the UnitedHealthcare D-SNP and returned to Original Medicare on January 1, 2028.

The key point: If you want to keep your UnitedHealthcare D-SNP after January 1, 2028, your Turquoise Care Medicaid plan must also be with UnitedHealthcare, especially during the Annual Enrollment Period for Medicare Advantage plans.
